The European Union, in order to reduce deforestation and forest degradation caused by the Member States’ overconsumption, introduced Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 31 May 2023 on the making available on the Union market and the export from the Union of certain goods and products related to deforestation and forest degradation.
It should be recognized that deforestation is a worldwide problem. The EUDR Regulation aims to reduce forest degradation by controlling products placed on the European market.
This regulation places additional obligations on companies. Complying with EUDR will make your consumers certain that their purchases were not the cause of deforestation or forest degradation.

✓ OPERATORS
Your company places relevant products or commodities on the EU market or exports them.
✓ TRADERS
Your company makes relevant products or commodities available on the EU market.
WARNING! If your company fits at least one of the above categories – you need to make sure its business activities are in full accordance with EUDR.
The regulation places a set of obligations on your company, which are intended to confirm that:
✓ Relevant products and commodities were not produced in areas subject to deforestation or forest degradation after 31 December 2020
✓ Were manufactured in full compliance with the law of their production country
✓ Are covered by the Due Diligence Statement
Basically, it means that your company needs to implement a Due Diligence System (DDS), which will allow you to identify the source of your products, for example timber, soya, or rubber. Your DDS documentation must be detailed and available for competent authorities in case of a control check.
