The Global Climate Crisis – The Main Reason for the EU's Drive to Implement the EUDR

23-07-2025

Forests are an invaluable source of social, economic, and environmental benefits, and combating deforestation and forest degradation is one of the key elements of the European Union's activities.

The facts on which the EU bases its need to implement the EUDR:

- Deforestation and forest degradation being a significant cause of the global climate crisis,

- Increased greenhouse gas emissions resulting from forest fires,

- Loss of biodiversity, which disrupts the functioning of forest ecosystems that provide clean air, play an important role in water and soil purification, and prevent natural disasters (e.g., droughts), thus protecting local and indigenous communities,

- More than half of the world's gross domestic product depends on environmental and natural issues (including three main economic sectors: food, agriculture, and construction).
